There is a self-contained and heated entrance lobby with far-reaching views, and which houses the washing machine in a cupboard.

A stable door leads to the inner hall which has practical wooden flooring, and there is a downstairs cloakroom with WC and wash basin.

The comfy sitting room has a living flame fire casting a cosy glow during cooler evenings with two sumptuous sofas and a traditional rocking chair provide ample seating. There’s an LCD television with Freeview and a DVD player, and French doors open to a conservatory-style dining space which is flooded with light and heated to ensure toasty dinners when the sun has gone down. From here, there is access to a small secluded garden with a raised deck area and barbecuing facility.

Surrounding local area

Mid way between Chipping Campden and Moreton-in-Marsh, Blockley is one of the larger Cotswold villages and remains relatively unspoilt. Like many of its Cotswold counterparts the heritage of the village is firmly rooted in the wool trade but unlike others, following the decline of the wool trade, the village prospered thanks to the presence of silk mills supplying silk ribbon to the Midlands. The handsome architecture means it’s very easy on the eye, the Norman church is particularly striking but despite being picture postcard pretty, there’s a real sense of community here too with the village shop being a community concern which is not only ‘open all hours’ but has a café that also opens Friday evenings for dinner – very civilised! There’s a great pub (always a boon for self caterers) and a wealth of things to do and places to visit nearby with Batsford Arboretum, Cotswold falconry (and archery) and the gardens at Mill Dene being just a few.

Guest reviews

We were very warm and comfortable in Little Shrublands on our 12th visit to the Cotswolds. We enjoyed a meal at the Great Western where the new management were most welcoming. Friday night at the village restaurant was good too!

Information about walks and the book on Blockley village were very useful. We appreciated the colour in the gardens too.
