Slimbridge – Floodlit Swan Feeding

November 30, 2009

SwansThe Cotswolds is a great place to enjoy the great outdoors, and there are plenty of opportunities to see some of England’s great wildlife whether  it is birds of prey, badgers, foxes or some of the local owls.

Every year the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust is home to flocks of Bewick’s swans migrating from the Russian Arctic through to their Winter home in the countries of Northern Europe.

Enjoy the magical winter spectacle of thousands of wild birds and Bewick’s swans wintering on SwanLake in floodlight. Listen to the warden’s commentary from the heated comfort of the observatory and discover how the WWT identify each Bewick’s swan individually.

The event takes place Saturdays and Sundays until the end of February.  Click here for further details.

The WWT in Slimbridge can be accessed from either junction 13 or 14 on the M5.  The closest of our cottages are

•    The High Room in Tetbury (Sleeps 2)
•    Meadow House in Cerney Wick (Sleeps 4)
•   Wishbone Cottage in Fairford (Sleeps 4 +1)
•    Isis Cottage in Somerford Keynes (Sleeps 4)
•    Lodge 4 in the Cotswold Water Park, South Cerney (Sleeps 8)

However, if you have an interest in a particular cottage and want to know how easy it is to visit the WWT or any other wildlife destination just drop us a line and we will be happy to advise.
